85th ACADEMY AWARDS : COMPLETE LIST OF NOMINEES

85th ACADEMY AWARDS : COMPLETE LIST OF NOMINEES

132

So here comes this year’s biggest annual movie event. With nominees just announced by Seth McFarlane and Emma Roberts, all that is left is only winning predictions. As ever, there are also some surprises and highlights. ‘Lincoln’, as many predicted, lead with 12 nominations, followed by ‘Life Of Pi’ (11), ‘Silver Linings Playbook’ and ‘Les Miserables‘ (8),  ‘Argo‘ (7), Amour’ (surprisingly, with its status as foreign language movie, 5 incl. Best Movie and Best Foreign Language Movie double rarities ) together with ‘Django Unchained‘, ‘Skyfall‘, and ‘Zero Dark Thirty‘ (5) .

Among the best picture list of nominees, the biggest surprise this year also belongs to Fox Searchlight’s ‘Beasts Of The Southern Wild’, an indie movie that received three others big nominations, Best Director for Benh Zeitlin, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Actress for the nine-year-old Quvenzhané Wallis, also the youngest best actress nominee in the history of Oscar. While Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Django Unchained’ also landed with nominations for Best Picture and Best Supporting Actor (Christoph Waltz).

Another things had to be noticed is the Art Direction category that has been renamed into ‘Best Production Design’. And unlike last year’s Best Original Song that has only two nominees, this year’s Oscar is back with five nominees, incl. Adele’s ‘Skyfall’, which actually not fully has all the original elements in its composition.

Then what’s left is only the let-downs for some, for those who got snubbed. You won’t find Helen Mirren in ‘Hitchcock‘ for Best Actress nominees, no Ben Affleck , Tom HooperKathryn Bigelow or Paul Thomas Anderson in Best Director category, no ‘Skyfall’ at the main category, not any for ‘The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’, and yes. No ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ in any technical category, while two of the Snow White adaptations, ‘Snow White And The Huntsman’ surprisingly landed in Best Visual Effects and both for ‘Mirror, Mirror’ in the Best Costume Design.

As the event will be held on February 24th , with the tribute theme to 50th James Bond anniversary, here are the complete list of The 85th Academy Awards’ nominees. We might not know yet if this is finally the time for Oscar to celebrate their own nation-leader’s biopic through Spielberg’s Lincoln, but may the best, win the race!
